Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s)

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are conditions that can affect your muscles, bones, and joints. The severity of MSDs can vary but they have the capacity to cause pain and discomfort that effects your day to day activities. Symptoms of MSDs can include reoccurring pains, aches, stiff joints and swelling. Certain activities can cause wear and tear on your musculoskeletal system, leading to MSDs. These include sitting in the same position for extended periods of time, engaging in repetitive motions, lifting heavy loads and maintaining poor posture.

It was estimated that in 2017/2018 the number of work-related MSDs was 469,000 (35%) out of a total of 1,358,000.
