Safety Data Sheet

Safety Data Sheet

Safety data sheets are required by the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations. Suppliers of dangerous chemicals must provide an up to date relevant safety data sheet. Your work place must have safety data sheets on record for all chemicals used. Safety data sheets give information on the safe use, handling, storage and emergency measures in the case of an accident. The safety data sheet will contain the information necessary to allow employers to do a risk assessment as required by COSHH.

The safety data sheets include:

  • Identification of the substance/mixture and of the company/undertaking;
  • Hazards identification;
  • Composition/information on ingredients;
  • First-aid measures;
  • Fire-fighting measures;
  • Accidental release measures;
  • Handling and storage;
  • Exposure controls/personal protection;
  • Physical and chemical properties;
  •  Stability and reactivity;
  •  Toxicological information;
  •  Ecological information;
  •  Disposal considerations;
  •  Transport information;
  •  Regulatory information;
  •  Other information
