Reducing the Risks

At this stage it has been decided that it’s not possible to avoid manual handling and so, an assessment has been completed considering the Load, Individual, Task and the Environment (LITE). The next step is to reduce the risks associated with manual handling to as low as reasonably practicable. There are many different ways to do this, all having their own advantages and disadvantages. The method or methods used will depend on your assessment of the Load, Individual, Task and the Environment (LITE).

A common motto used is to work smarter not harder. We shall try and apply this to manual handling.

Below are some methods used to reduce the risks from manual handling
